Why I Designed This
Watching my kids play with LEGO and other building toys, I noticed that keeping their hands busy often helped their minds settle, too. I wanted that open-ended creativity in silicone instead of rigid plastic, with little sensory details to explore, including raised dots to rub and a swirl to trace as a reminder to breathe.
I started with one snowflake shape, but added a second so younger builders could make flat pictures while growing into 3D creations. I even worked with our manufacturer to make the silicone firmer so their designs would hold together better. And I wanted these to be beautiful enough to leave out, with earthy colours and a cotton pouch. I keep a set in my purse all the time!

Why are there two different connector shapes?
The two shapes were designed to offer more ways to build. Children can begin with flat, two-dimensional (2D) patterns and pictures, then experiment with three-dimensional (3D) structures as their interests and skills develop. There is no required progression or single correct design.
What are the dots and swirls for?
The centre details add tactile texture to the silicone pieces. Children can rub the dots or trace a swirl with a finger; the swirl can also serve as a gentle prompt to take a breath. Some children enjoy this sensory input more than others, and Calm Connectors are toys, not a treatment or guaranteed regulation tool.
How do children play with Calm Connectors?
